A student-led movement supported by Empowerment Collective.

Advocating for safe, inclusive schools across Royal Oak.

Where We Stand: Quick Facts

What is this about?

Royal Oak High School approved a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) club. Students, parents, and community members are raising concerns about whether this organization aligns with district values of safety, inclusion, and respect for all students.

Has TPUSA faced controversy elsewhere?

Yes. Multiple schools across the U.S. have had TPUSA chapters investigated or shut down after harassment, doxxing, and extremist affiliations were uncovered. (Sources: NBC News, Southern Poverty Law Center, Media Matters for America, ADL.)

Why are parents and students concerned?

TPUSA has a documented history of promoting hate, harassment, and misinformation — especially toward LGBTQ+ individuals, women, and students of color. This contradicts the school’s anti-discrimination and inclusivity policies.

What are we asking the district to do?

  1. Reexamine TPUSA’s eligibility under existing school policy.

  2. Publicly reaffirm its commitment to inclusion and safety.

  3. Ensure club oversight and accountability from staff advisors.

Protect Our Students’ Safety - Petition

Isn’t this about “free speech”?

No. This is about harassment and discrimination, not differing opinions. The Equal Access Act protects student speech, but it does not allow student clubs to create a hostile or unsafe learning environment.

What can the community do?

Join us at the Royal Oak Schools Board Meeting on Thursday, November 13, 2025, 6:30 PM at the Royal Oak Schools Administration Office, 800 DeVillen St.
Sign the petition, share this information, and stand for student safety and inclusion.
